After the Day
The day after Christmas and I’m still all wrapped up in warm fuzzies. It really was a good one this year.
The food is a very big deal to me. The mixing of flavours, textures, colors, and of course china, crystal and silver. Couldn’t have been better this time.
And the family has grown, there are more of us now and that is so lovely after years of sorrow for the really important ones who were gone. Children just make it better and this year the three grandsons (13, 6, 18 mos) delighted us all with their funny antics and boundless joy.
I’ve struggled with the family dynamics and endeavored to create an atmosphere of loving acceptance no matter what. This Christmas that was achieved to a much higher degree.
Throughout the week of festivities which included luncheons, shopping, dinners, gatherings and so on I was filled with the presence of time. Or maybe the importance of holiday time and gatherings to our human spirit. Without making an effort we can easily slide into solitude and remorse, but with just a little effort we can go out and include people/family into our lives to achieve a more expansive sense of peace and connectedness.
What a gift these gatherings can be.
