The Real Work
“The real work is becoming native in your heart, coming to understand we really live here, that this is really the continent we’re on, and that our loyalties are here, to these mountains and rivers, to these plant zones, to these creatures. The real work involves a loyalty that goes back……..billions of years. The real work is accepting citizenship in the earth itself.”
-Gary Snyder
For me, that means that my yard and garden are organic, that I don’t take part in the deeper pollution of our water sources through poisoning weeds and bugs. Poor things- that spreads out a killing karma that has devastating global effects.
For me, it is seeing that even the smallest act I do that is not in harmony with nature affects the whole and we all pay the price.
Accountability and the real work seem to be my mantra these days.
