Discourses and musings from a second Saturn return

Sassy b.8/1989 d.1/26/2008

August 25, 1989, a small black kitten wandered into our yard and into our hearts.  She was so tiny and black with a small white patch on her chest and lower belly.  She might have been 4 or 5 weeks old.

My daughter, Willa was 6 and found her first, I said no we can’t keep her.  Little did I know then that a major personality was to be a part of our lives and later a part of my friend, Dixie’s life.

All cat’s, all pets, are special but seldom do you get to share space with a cat who runs the show with humor, intelligence and pazazz. She was a spirited cat and very playful.  A wonderful mother to the many litters she bore into the world.  Many friends and clients were delighted with her offspring, we found good homes for them all.

We originally called her Samantha, as that was the name of my 1st kitty, but soon we knew that was not right and Willa called her Sassy because of her saucy nature.  For years her favorite thing to do was eat crickets, not there bodies, just their legs (ewww) and so I called her Sassafras Cricket!  But Sassy it remained.

She ruled the roost at our home in Council Bluffs, even lording it over our part Maine Coon cat, Thundercat.  He was big and gentle and she was small and feisty.  But she was the Queen, and he acknowledged that.

Later, when the kids moved on with their lives and so did Tim and I, she moved in with my dear friend, Dixie.

Although I loved Sassy, as did my whole family, moving in with Dixie was a great match.  They both have very playful spirits and great hearts.  I have to say that Sassy was happier these last 4+ years with Dixie than she had ever been.  She was the only cat and totally adored and doted on.  It was heaven for her to be with Dix.

Needless to say it is sad to say goodbye – God speed Sassy
