The State of Fish
It is a time when many people are concerned about what they eat. And just when people started embracing that more fish in the diet will help you feel better etc., all the reports about the toxic oceans with Mercury poisoning, over fished, etc. etc……..I was just about ready to quit eating fish altogether.
Facts are helpful to dispel myths, so here are a few “fish facts”:
Mercury Levels in Fish:
HIGH: Shark (over fished), Swordfish (over fished), Tuna (Yellow fin, Ahi, Albacore, Bigeye, canned), Tilefish, Orange Roughy, Marlin, Mackeral, Grouper, Bluefish
MEDIUM: Bass (striped, black), Carp, Cod, Lobster, Mahi Mahi, Halibut, Croaker, Monkfish, Perch, Sablefish, Snapper, Sea Trout, Canned Chunk Tuna
LOW: Anchovies, Calamari, Catfish, Clam (domestic), Cod (arctic), Crawfish/Crayfish, Flounder, Atlantic Haddock, Hake-Herring, Mackeral (N. Atlantic, Chub), Mullet-Oyster, Perch (ocean), Plaice-Polluck, Salmon, Sardine-Scallop, Sole (pacific), Tilapia, Trout (fresh water), Whitefish, Whiting
I’m pretty happy to hear that Salmon is low, of course that means WILD salmon and not farm raised. They just get too many parasites in those fish farms.
Off to buy a nice piece of salmon for supper, think I’ll marinate some portobella mushrooms, asparagus, baby turnips, onions in Olive oil with chopped fresh herbs from my garden, lemon juice, grated garlic and S & P and cook over an open fire tonight. MMMMMMM, don’t you just love good food!
And what about Shrimp?
Shrimp is America’s most popular seafood import, but you won’t find any shrimp recipes on these pages. Most wild shrimp are caught using destructive fishing practices that tear up ocean habitat and kill tons of unwanted fish, and most shrimp farms destroy natural swamps and wetlands and pollute the environment with antibiotics and pesticides. In restaurants, trap-caught spot prawns are a good choice, but you’re unlikely to find these at your local market. Some companies are making encouraging progress in reducing the harmful impacts of shrimp fishing (learn more here), but for now, we suggest saving shrimp for special occasions.

Mercury is the planet of the mind. I wonder which does the most damage to our whole system – the trace mercury in the fish or the trace thoughts that what we eat is potentially harmful for us? So much stress gets infused into our diets just because our mind wants to know about the chemicals used by the farmers, etc. What ever happened to just praying over our food to change its vibration and yes, chemical structure and then having faith that this is enough to keep us healthy?
Well, of course that is another way to deal with all of this. I always say a blessing before I eat.
I don’t think a little trace Mercury would hurt, but we get it in so many other ways also that it has become a big problem for the physical body. I’d love to see a study done on the average person praying over their food, or Reiki-ing it, certainly could solve a lot of problems. But then, you know, those corporations would take such license with that and use even more chemicals. And I wonder why Mother Earth doesn’t just pray over all the toxins and heal it for us????? Just a thought.
Mother nature is praying over it…. she is offering lots of thistle and other things which we consider as weeds to remove the toxins – but being the idiots that we are – they get genocided with herbocides. So now she is offering lots of rain to try to wash that off. It’s a really mercury – the planet of the mind – problem as we think we are being so smart when in fact we are our own worst enemy.
